Washington DC SANA Chapter Picnic (June 2, 2007)

Once again, the SANA Chapter and other Sindhis of Washington DC welcomed Summer by holding a picnic on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the beautiful Black Hill Regional Park in Maryland.

Starting around 12 noon, Sindhi families trickled in but as usual, most joined an hour or more later. There was a short hiking trail besides our shelter area and many Sindhi children took advantage of wonderful weather and beautiful scenery to explore the trail.

In accordance with a chapter tradition, a gift was presented to Adi Nargis and ada Zahid Shaikh, who recently became proud parents of a son. Although, Adi Kanwal and master Aaris (who was born on May 29) could not join, we were grateful that ada Hanif was able to attend the picnic. The community welcomed Dr. Aziz ur Rahman Bughio (father of Mr. Khalil ur Rahman Bughio, a well-known Washington DC-based Sindhi journalists), who is temporarily visiting our area. Dr sahib has authored a book on the History of Sindhi Journalism and has served as Press Attache at the Pakistan Embassy UAE in mid 80s.

Ada Zahid Shaikh (SANA's Representative for Eastern Region) informed about upcoming SANA convention in Orlando from June 29 to July 2. He gave information on the new blocks of hotel rooms that were arranged for the attendees and distributed the Convention Registration forms.

Khalid Hashmani and Iqbal Tareen provided information and urged the community to attend the "Peoples' Movement rally on June 3 from 3 PM to 4 PM in front of the White House. They explained that as one of the root causes of exploitation and discrimination of native Sindhis in Pakistan is lack of democracy in Pakistan, Sindhis must support the current Peoples' movement for democracy there.

In the end, the community members gave a big "THANK YOU" to mamma Aleem Brohi, adi Khurshid Shaikh, and ada Hanif Sangi for organizing such a wonderful and enjoyable event.
