Sindh flood victims hold protest

LARKANA, Aug 2: Flood victims, including women and children, held a demonstration in protest against government’s failure to provide them relief. Meanwhile two displaced children died of gastroenteritis in Qambar on Thursday.
People from to the flood-affected villages of Wahi, Jamal Khan, Nozaman and Hameer Khan held the rally outside the Qambar Press Club. They accused the district government of stuffing them in relief camps and not providing them food.
They complained that they had also not been provided medicines and SRO sachets to fight against diseases.
Muneera Chandio, 4, died in a relief camp set up in the Aacha village near Qambar, while Jamila Chandio (2) died in Khosa mohalla of Qambar where the flood affected family was residing with their relatives.
Families of the victims said that they were poor and could not afford treatment in private hospitals and the government had left them in the lurch. They appealed for medical facilities and timely supply of food to save the flood-affected people.Meanwhile, three shopkeepers were arrested in Qambar for allegedly selling relief goods meant for distribution in relief camps.
The magistrate raided the shops of Sobho Mal, Sri Chand and Ghulam Serwar Khokhar in the main market and recovered huge quantity of relief items carrying government labels.
