THURSDAY: SYC with support from Saharo and Saeen Rasheed Soomro, distributed 50 dillas among families, and plan to distribute 50 more on Saturday in camps in Hyderabad. We also distributed snack packs among 500 children, and naans with potato and chana gravy among 530 residents of flood relief camps.
People were very happy to receive dillas, because they did not have anything except of broken up plastic gallons to store water. May people ran from far away to get them, but unfortunately many left disappointed because we ran out of them very soon. We could only fit 50 dillas with food, and volunteers in a small Suzuki. Insha Allah we shall take 50 more on Saturday.
A lot of people told us that we were the first ones who had taken food to them. They were very hungry, angry, disappointed, and destitute. However, they were very happy to see us with food, and gave blessings to those who donated money to buy them food.
Every single face lit up with joy and happiness when we distributed the snack packs among little ones. All of the children were nice and cooperative, and received their share of snack packs with discipline.
• PROPOSED MEDICAL CAMP: We have already taken possession of a room in Govt. High School, in Sindh University Housing Society to establish a Medical Camp. We will purchase medicine, install a bolt of door, clean up the room, and make it operational from Monday, tentatively. Currently, there are more than 800 residents in this school, with a nearby elementary school housing more than 200 victims. Once we started the medical camp, we expect at least 2,000 more flood affected people from the university area to benefit from this service.
• SEWING MACHINES FOR FLOOD AFFECTED WOMEN IN CAMPS: Saeen Rasheed Soomro Sahab has donated money to buy 10 sewing machines to flood affected women in camps. I am a very strong supporter of the idea of empowering women of poverty stricken areas in Sindh. This project will have a dual impact on flood affected women: One, at least ten women will be empowered to contribute towards supporting their families, until their men could find a viable source of income. Two, they will provide a much needed service to the camp residents to sew their cloths.
• THOUSAND SEWING MACHINES FOR THOUSAND WOMEN: SYC wants to expand this project to include 1,000 machines for 1,000 flood affected women throughout Sindh. With the help of www.sindhtelegraph.com, we will search for 1,000 deserving women who are able to use sewing machines to support their families in these difficult times, and donate them one machine each. Please HELP us, help families caught in a vicious circumstance.
