05 Sep 2010-Jamshoro Pakistan
Sindh Youth Council General Secretary fainted amid riot by the flood affected mob.
Today Sindh Youth Council with the help from Saharo Foundation distributed 50 dillas among residents of a camp in Jamshoro. We alo distributed 100 half kg rusk packs, 100 powdered milk, sugar, and tea packs; thanks to Mr. Kamran of Lateefabad, a personal friend.
We had a really rough day today. We started out at the same camp we had been visiting since last week. Up until yesterday, the residents were very nice, and co-operative. We never had any unpleasant incident at the camp. But,today was different story.
Most of the people we had served until yesterday were moved out, and a whole bunch of new people had arrived in the camp. As soon as we pulled over, and started distributing the dillas, and breakfast stuff, we were attacked by a mob. Every body was jumping on everybody. They all wanted the aid first. There were people who beat each other up, and we saw anger in their eyes toward us.
The pushing, shoving, and riot was so harsh that the Secretary of our flood relief committee, Saeed Soomro, fell unconscious. He is already ill and frail. Luckily we had a doctor on our team who gave him immediate treatment.
This was the time when we decided to run for our lives, and run we did. Eight people jumped behind our Suzuki, and wanted to loot the supplies. We had a real hard time in getting those people off of the vehicle. But, the desperate and hungry flood victims continued following us on foot for 3 km. We had to stop the vehicle, and gave them dillas and breakfast stuff.
We distributed the rest of the dillas and breakfast stuff among Kolhis, and Bagdis on Jamshoro Bye Pass.
Tomorrow I will take the doctors team to visit the high school in university society to make the final arrangements for the medical camp.
I don't know about Shikarpur, and Larkana, but the situation in food distribution in Hyderabad and Jamshoro is very alarming. Especially if you distributed the uncooked food packs. There have been many incidents of people beating up the donors and volunteers, and rioting against each other. There have been tribal clashes over food in Sabzi Mandi, Hyderabad camp. I strongly advise Jumani Sahab to be extra careful.

Sindh Youth Council in association with Saharo Foundation continued with the same menu, e.g., naan with potato and chana gravy. I will post photos tomorrow, as my camera is left at another place.
Today, we found some new families, and missed some of the old ones. Probably they moved out to some other location.
People are very hungry, and desperate to get food. I think we are lucky so far that we haven't had any unpleasant experience in distribution of relief. That maybe because we are too small relief team, or maybe we are not going into large relief camps. Or perhaps it is the way our volunteers treat the victims with respect and dignity that we did not have any problems.
From the day one we find the most responsible person in the camp, and ask him to call in just the heads of the families to get the aid. Then he calls people one by one and ask them to make a cue. Everybody comes peacefully, and takes away whatever we are distributing without giving us a hard time.
A local young philanthropist from Lateefabad #9, has donated 70 packs of Rusk, powdered milk-sugar-and tea to Sindh Youth Concil for tomorrow.
Hyderabad EDO health has agreed to give us two doctors for our medical camp in high school. There are at least 5,000 victims in the immediate neighborhood. We will need a regular flow of medicines starting next week.

Dear Friends,
I want to THANK YOU for your donations, and volunteer service. I have attached
our activity report for the month of August 2010, this all happened because of YOU,
your help made this happen.
We had a great success in the month of August, and looking forward for your help
in September as well. Please help us out by spreading the word. We have NOT
Charged you a penny for overhead cost, all your donations went DIRECTLY to
Flood victims through our volunteer team of Engineers, Doctors, etc.
We bought items with your money from local markets, and distributed in victims without
Discriminating on the basis of cast, creed, or religion. Hyderabad camps had Muslims and
non Muslims, who were treated equally. We do not have luxurious offices, vehicles, or salaries.
We are just like you, full time professionals, and students trying to serve humanity.
Please go through our activity report, feel free to ask for any clarification, it is your
hard earned money! If you find this report appropriate, then please HELP us raise
funds. All donations are tax exempt. If you have NOT donated yet, then please come
forward, situation on ground is disastrous!
We have served over 10,000 meals throughout Sindh, provided medical care at no charge.
Orphans are being given special care, we are providing them clothes, and shoes. We have
served several gallons of purified water, distributed manual fans, We have provided shelter
to more than 100 families in Larkana camp alone. This is all being done with your support.
We have posted YouTube videos, and will continue to do so;

Saharo treats a Gastro patient in Hyderabad
Tonight I learned about a serious Gastro patient in Hur Camp, of Hyderabad. I requested our volunteer doctor Abdul Wahab Soomro, to treat this patient. The doctor gave him an injection, and will follow with him for further treatment tomorrow.
Once again Sindh Youth Council and Saharo are planning to distribute food to 550 people in Hyderabad and Jamshoro camps, tomorrow. We will also distribute some used clothing among affected people tomorrow.

Recently I talked to organizers of the local mosque (ICM - Islamic Center of Maryland) and told them about Saharo's effort for the flood victims in Sindh. They locally raised some money and distributed to several other non-profit organizations, they also decided to give Mabel/Saharo foundation $5000. I have recieved a check and will give it to Hanif this weekend for the distribution of funds for the flood victims.

Zahid Shaikh

Two of our volunteers are suffering from heat exertion (I and Doctor Wahab Soomro). We have already prepared the list of recipients of Eid cloths. Tomorrow we will visit garment factories in Hyderabad to buy Eid cloths. I found out that Zainab Mrket in Karachi is more expensive than factories in Hyderabad. We plan to take additional 50 matkas, plastic cups, and food for approximately 700 people on Friday.
Yesterday, we visited the principal in high school in Sindh University Society. He has more than 800 flood affected people staying in his school. We talked about setting up a FREE medical camp in the school. He was very gracious to offer us a room with required furniture. Insha Allah we will be able to set up this medical camp in about one week.
Looking forward to your input.
Aijaz.
