SAHARO DEPRESSION TREATMENT CENTER FOR FLOOD VICTIMS
Saharo foundation started mega project against depression and established
saharo centre at memon clinic, dadwai road Shikarpur Sindh in 2010. Clinic
is run by Dr.Siraj Ahmad Memon, consultant psychiatrist with experience of
more than 29 years. In order to measure the flood victims’ mental health,
posttraumatic symptoms, depression, anxiety, and general psychological
distress were assessed, and treated at Saharo free health clinic.
Medication is being provided for those regarded as suicidal.
Current economic conditions, higher inflation and jobless rate, flood
related losses and other factors have created several depression related
issues among local population in Southern Pakistan. Saharo Foundation
allocated Rs. 100,000 for treatment of 10 patients/month. Saharo clinic is
providing free consultation and treatment for depression, eating disorder,
PTSD, OCD, Hysteria, and Epilepsy since Dec 2010.
Several hundred peoples who are suffering from major depression visited
Saharo centre. After careful review, 143 patients who were very poor, and
at last stage of disease, thinking about suicide due to non availability
of resources were given free medicines. Clinic treated 570 patients in a
year, but 143 were considered serious cases. Those 143 were routinely
provided rehabilitation services at no cost.
Thanks to all donors who supported this cause. Please come forward and
