Saharo Non Profit School Project

MISSION STATEMENT

The Saharo Foundation School is a public, non-profit, multi-age K-5 school serving Larkana District and the surrounding communities with a mission to provide international standard education through core curriculum while infusing second language and innovative teaching methods which will nurture problem solving and leadership skills.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to establish international standard technologically connected school from elementary to high school in rural areas of developing
countries where there are no other means to get non-traditional quality education with focus on females.

SCHOOL DETAILS

This Non-Profit school is located in the heart of Larkana District at Village Sattar Dino, about 5 kms away from city on main road connecting Larkana with Mirokhan. School will initially be for classes 1-5 and potentially going towards high school level.

WHY THIS SCHOOL

Public schools have crippled in Pakistan because of corruption in education system, people who can afford are sending kids to profitable private schools in Larkana and those who simply can’t afford tuition fees of private schools have opted to remove kids from schools. This is situation in
urban areas of Larkana! Let’s think about rural areas where schools have turned in to ghost buildings with ghost teachers who are drawing salaries. Our young generation especially girls are being pushed into dark ages. We CAN’T change the system overnight but we can help people by giving them other option of introducing innovative ways to create problem solvers, critical thinkers, and decision-makers from early age, so they can compete in this tech savvy world.

Larkana has population of over 2 Million people with more than 72% living in rural area. According to data, illiteracy ratio among females is over 70% in Larkana area. According to U.S National Institute of Building Sciences:

School facilities have a profound impact on their occupants and the functions of the building, namely teaching and learning. Children in various stages of development are stimulated by light, color, the scale of their surroundings, even the navigational aspects of their school. Children can also react negatively to adverse conditions.

WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE

The school will have set of instructions in both Sindhi and English (Also possibly choice of Arabic Education so students can explore Middle East Opportunities where many American Universities are opening their campuses), there will be computer lab connected with International schools. Kids
who graduate from here will have countless options, from exploring exchange students to attending cadet colleges. School curriculum will focus on shaping the LEADERS for tomorrow. It's not about counting years in school; education is all about opening innovative minds and giving children tools so they can plan for their life. It's a catalyst for development and growth, so let’s provide them this lifetime opportunity.

We will not only focus on traditional curriculum but children will develop variety of problem solving, confidence building and leadership skills through use of technology and open line of communication between teachers, students, parents and community members. Students of all ages will be introduced to creative world of arts, creativity exists in children and they will learn by making mistakes just like we all do. South Asian educational system have very little room of making mistakes and learning from them, they follow traditional family ways of learning, but we will introduce the model where they will make their own decisions by mastering problem solving skills. Fear blocks creativity, so this environment will be free of all fears. Our school and class sizes and student teacher ratio will be based upon the research conducted in the United States

(http://www.brookings.edu/gs/brown/bpepconference/ReadyLee_Paper.pdf\) We will ensure that our school meet or exceed international standards of
education. School will focus on physical activity and meeting nutritional needs through serving lunches at school.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT SOCIETY

Education is the most valuable gift we can ever give to any society. We need both boys and girls of area to get quality education, can’t ignore 50% of society by not having educational opportunity for them. We can create better tomorrow if we meet the pre-requisite which is elementary school. We need to lay the strong foundation at elementary level to get permanent improvement otherwise we will face challenges where youth will not be able to compete at global level. Elementary education is just the first step we take during childhood; we can’t run if we don’t learn to
walk.

Children at birth are natural scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers. They consider the world around them and try to make sense of it the best way they know how: touching, tasting, building, dismantling, creating, discovering, and exploring. For kids, this isn't education. It's fun!
