Washington DC SANA Chapter/Sindhi Community Holds Memorable Event

Saturday, Feb 25, 2006 – The Sindhi community of Washington DC gathered for a memorable event in SANA's histroy. This historical event was a great success in selecting a new council for 2 year term. Out going council did a marvelous job in bringing Sindhi Washingtonians together, not only this time but from time to time. This Party too was organized by the outgoing council of Washington DC chapter of Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) with a valentine theme in the central location of Sliver Springs, Maryland.

Party started off with romantic music, colorful candles floating from table to table, with ample space for everyone to be seated and admire the exotic scene created by volunteers. One of the reasons for this party to be historical is that most of our Great Sindhis did show up within given time frame with an average delay of 30 - 45 minutes as compare to coming according to PST instead of EST. Incredible Haan!! Delay in few key people was due to the fact that naan family had to go to chakee to get flour and then make naans, paper product family had to dye the products red to make it valentine themed, Soda family had no valid excuse for the delay. When hunger pangs intensity got at its peak and people started peeping in the kitchen, appetizers were served followed by main entrees.
After the hungary mob was fed, it was time for anouncements and updates. President, Yasmeen Memon, and Vice President, Reno Ahuja, welcomed all for coming and making the party a great success. They greeted everyone for Eid and Valentine. Ada Fayyaz Memon and Mirium Memon, recently completed their family (hopefully) and got a present for this accomplishment. A new comer, Qasim Kalhora, got introduced to the community. Suneeta Khatri was recognised for taking a big risk on her bank account and signing the deposit check for renting party room. Ada Bader Shaikh and Apa Khursheed were congratulated as their son got engaged recently and soon there will be an invitation for the wedding, if your relations are not messed up with them. Ada Ali Nawaz Memon and Apa Razia were congratulated for being proud grand parents. Zahid Shaikh was questioned repeatedly for his wife's burnt hand, however, got sorted out before taking this matter to social services .

Finally, the most historic moment in SANA history came to select the President and Vice President, for which Ada Aleem Brohi and Ada Hanif Sangi were selected, respectively. Adi Khursheed Shaikh, created a new position, Menu Maker / General Secretary, and pledged to fulfil her duties under this title. To add to the chain of historical moments, all but three families were not equipped with $20 for membership dues, hence the new council collected money for their weekend shopping. Lastly, all those who were in shades of pinks, reds and whites were asked to gather in the middle for a photo. Adi Khursheed Shaikh, swept away the invisible prize for being dressed up in a very pretty pink from top to bottom, however, organizers were impoverished to even get a $5 present. Party ended with a big and loud GOOD LUCK to the new council.
