US Scholarships


USEFP Programs for Pakistani Citizens

1. Fulbright Master’s Program

This program funds graduate study in the U.S. for a Master’s degree program and the program is funded by the U.S. Government. The next competition will be announced in early February 2011. People considering applying should plan take the GRE examination. Deadline: mid-May.

2. Fulbright Ph.D. Program

This program funds graduate study in the U.S. towards a Ph.D. degree. This may be a coursework and/or research towards a Ph.D. or an entire program. Funding for this program is provided by U.S. Government. The next competition will be announced in early February 2011. People considering applying should plan take the GRE examination. Deadline: mid-May.

3. International Fulbright Science and Technology Award

This program is for a Ph.D. study at a top U.S. institution in science, technology, or engineering fields. This may be a coursework and/or research towards a Ph.D. or an entire program.

4. Fulbright Scholar Program

This program seeks to improve mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the people of Pakistan through academic and cultural exchange. This program funds up to 12 months lectureship, post-doctoral research, or a combination of the two at a U.S. college or university. The 2012 competition will be announced in summer 2011. Deadline: mid-October

5. Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA)

Teachers of English language will attend a U.S. institution to improve their English teaching skills. In return, these participants will teach Urdu, Pashto or Punjabi at selected U.S. campuses during their 9-month grant. The next competition will be announced in early February 2011. Deadline: end June.

6. Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program

The Humphrey program provides up to one year of professional enrichment and non-degree graduate-level study in the US for mid-level professionals. The next competition will be announced in early February 2011. Deadline: mid- July.

7. Community College Initiative Program (CCIP)

CCIP enables participants from Pakistan to study one year at a community college in the U.S. to earn a vocational certificate and immerse themselves in U.S. society and culture.

8. Near East & South Asia Undergraduate Program

Outstanding students from Pakistan will attend a one year-long program for non-degree undergraduate study at accredited U.S. institutions. This program was announced on December 12, 2010. Deadline: January 12, 2011.

9. Global UGRAD Semester Exchange

Outstanding students from Pakistan will attend a one semester-long program for non-degree undergraduate study at accredited two and four year institutions in the U.S. This program was announced on December 12, 2010. Deadline: January 12, 2011.

10. Pakistan - U. S. Student Leaders Summer Workshop

Pakistani undergraduate student leaders will be provided four to six weeks summer program opportunity to spend productive time at an American institution with American counterparts. The workshop includes leadership training and addresses areas of common concern to Pakistani and US students. This program was announced on December 12, 2010. Deadline: January 12, 2011.

11. Teachers Enrichment Achievement (TEA) Program

This program will provide Pakistani English language teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge of the United States. Participants will also engage in host university-organized two-week internships at a local secondary school. Trips to U.S. cultural sites, civic activities, and academic support will be provided for participants throughout the program. This program will be announced on December 5, 2010, Deadline: January 13, 2011.

12. U.S.-Pakistan Professional Partnership Program for Public Administrators

This program will provide participants the opportunity to study public administration techniques and processes through two to four week internships with Public Administration professionals in the U.S. Each program will include strategies employed by American professionals to counter corruption and bureaucratic entanglements in public administration. The first of the five programs will take place in spring 2011.

13. U.S-Pakistan Professional Partnership Program for Journalists

Participants will be placed within relevant, reputable, legally-recognized U.S. organizations where they will gain hands-on experience with the journalism profession in the U.S. The four to six week program provides the opportunity to establish relationships with U.S. professional counterparts for on-going collaboration. The first group of journalists will begin their programs in Spring 2011.
